2024 Alumni Homecoming Gathering Highlights Johnson Spectroscopy Lab

Oct. 16, 2024

By Sydney Gant

The BYU Chemistry and Biochemistry Department hosted its Homecoming Gathering on October 10th, 2024. Several faculty members, former and current, and alumni attended to celebrate BYU campus and the Chemistry Department’s growing research and development. As part of the celebrations, Dr. Jeremy A. Johnson presented some of his Spectroscopy Lab’s work, focusing on Terahertz light generation and detection, hyperspectral imaging, and controlling material properties with light. Working closely with Dr. David Michelis’s Lab, the Johnson Lab now creates their own crystals to use specifically for Terahertz light generation. Dr. Johnson also showcased how his lab works with Terahertz light to make non-magnetic molecules emit magnetic fields. To conclude, Dr. Johnson praised his students’ ability to drive discovery and promised that many exciting things are coming.

A special thank you to everyone who attended and celebrated with us.
