BYU Student Michael Haggard receives Best Poster Award
Sept. 11, 2024
Michael Haggard, a BYU undergraduate student of Dr. Adam Woolley, recently won a Best Poster Award at the HPLC 2024 52nd International Symposium. The conference, held in Denver, Colorado, focused exclusively on liquid phase separations, instruments involved in the process, and innovations in chromatography, or the process of separating components of a mixture. Students from universities across four different countries presented their work at the conference.
Haggard’s poster was one of ten Best Poster Award winners. His poster highlighted a method of determining an expectant mother’s risk of a preterm birth using 3D printed devices to analyze molecules. The devices could identify and highlight molecules from a blood sample. “Because we’re working on the microscale for our experiments, our methodology would make such tests quite inexpensive and accessible,” Haggard explained.
The BYU Chemistry and Biochemistry Department faculty and staff offer sincere congratulations to Haggard on his work and achievements. We want to express gratitude to both him and Dr. Woolley for their incredible contributions to the BYU Chemistry Department and the scientific community as a whole.
