Sue Mortensen retired from her position as the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department’s Administrative Assistant on October 1st, 2024.
Sue first began serving in the department in the Business Office, then moved to Department Secretary. She assumed her position as the Administrative Assistant to the Chair with the retirement of Peggy Erickson.
Sue supported all aspects of the office: providing aid for all 40 faculty members, advising the undergraduate students, and overseeing the department office’s employees and processes. With dedication, she supported our majors, working to align their academic goals with the overall mission of the department and Brigham Young University as a whole.
A celebratory lunch for Sue was held in the Wilkinson Center’s Skyroom Court. Faculty and Staff from across the Chemistry Department joined together to express their gratitude for the many years of dedication and love Sue gave to the department. She expressed, "It has been a unique privilege and opportunity to have been employed in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry for the last 16 years. I have loved my career at BYU and appreciate the growth opportunities it provided for me, professionally, personally, and spiritually. In particular, I have enjoyed the interaction with students, coworkers, and faculty. It is time, though, to move on to new opportunities and challenges."
Jaron Hansen, the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department’s Chair, also shared his thoughts: “Sue has been a spectacular employee, colleague, and friend, and she will be greatly missed.”
We wish Sue the best as she continues onward!
